- The data you will be looking at is LIVE, ACROSS THE INTERNET. Your changes are immediately reflected to everyone who is also looking at the data. You will be looking at a true Distributed Database Application, once you launch the sample!
- Notice that unlike a web browser, the interface is clean, crisp, very predicable and very fast. Notice how FAST the data loads.
- You are running the application LOCALLY as an EXECUTABLE INTERNET Application (X Internet) so you are NOT DEPENDENT on the server to process the display characteristics.
- Because you are accessing data over HTTP (or HTTPS for secure connections), your firewall and ISP have no problems.
- Notice that there is little or no installation to "running" the software. It installs and updates automatically, so you always have the latest version.
- Unlike a web browser application, these applications cost less than 1/3 the cost of development of the web application.
- Because much of the processing happens locally, the load on the server is less than 1% of the load on an equivalent web server. Therefore, the horsepower requirements of the server are minimal. (In fact, the server running this application is actually just a standard single CPU P-III 450 client machine)
- The database behind the application can be SQL Server, Oracle, Access, MSDE, or just about any ODBC/ADO compliant database.
- Because these are demos, with dummy data, the security on these applications is open. But in the real application, we can define whatever security we like, by role, by client, or any other category we define.
